Low Vision and Neuro-rehabilitation Optometrist: Dr. Ho

If you have a vision loss that threatens your driving privileges, start working with Dr. Ho as soon as possible, and spend as much time as you possibly can working on her practice exercises at home. Doing the homework is imperative: Dr. Ho can accomplish great things for you, but only if you practice a whole lot at home.
In 2018 I experienced a minor stroke that took out my right peripheral visual field, a condition called hemianopsia. My VUMC neurologist told me not to drive until I had been cleared by a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Therapist. I enrolled with Dr. Ho as soon as possible and converted my living/dining room into a vision practice lab. I stopped doing everything except my part time job, household essentials, and practiced vision therapy. I did this for most of a year.
After 6-8 months of intensive work with Dr. Ho plus on the road driving therapy elsewhere, I was successful in retaining my driver’s license. Work hard. If there is a solution, Dr. Ho will find it for you, but only if you work hard at it.
